Outdoor Equipment – Signal

LIGHT SIGNALS

Light signals are devices which, by day or night, give signal signs by coloured light (single or double signal signs). Light signals can be:

  • Main signal with two, three or four lights
  • Distant signal and repeaters of distant signal
  • Signals on level crossings
  • Indicators of speed, direction, track and train departure
  • Regional shunting signal
  • Boundary track signal
  • Shunting signal for protection of track route
  • Control signals for automatic devices on level crossings

Main signal

Light signals are installed with their signal plates carrying lamps in the position normal to the track. Signal plate with lamp can be turned around to some angle according to the situation on the field, and the signal lamp itself can change the position in all directions for proper light signal routing. Main signals are used for providing necessary orders, prohibitions or permits for further train ride. Minimum visibility range of the main signal is defined by the maximum allowed speed on the railway (for 160km/h – 500m). Signal post with foundation must be stable and resist to wind speed of 150km/h without permanent moving and deformations.

It is produced in variants:

Boundary track signal

A boundary track signal is used to divide the main track to limited sections, or for marking the end of the main track which is not equipped with the main signal, and for marking the end of “blind track”. It consists of signal box, with 4 lights on the front side, out of which two are red, placed horizontally in line, and two milky white, placed across from left to right. Lamps (with bulbs 30 V, 15/15 W) have lens hood and diameter of Ø70. Signal box enables regulation and optimum signal routing. Boundary track signal is placed on the pole with climber, and the pole is placed on standard foundation with lockers.

Signal 78

Signal 78 is used to give signal for train departure. This signal is the circuit made of green signal lights. In the circle there are 12 bulbs connected to two separate circuits. One current circuit made of 6 bulbs makes hatched circuit, and the other current circuit of 6 bulbs makes unhatched circuit. This signal is placed on the pole of the exit signal, under signal plate or on a separate pole.

Shunting signal

This shunting signal for track protection shows if shunt drive behind this signal is allowed or forbidden. It consists of two lights, diameter of Ø70, upper is red and lower is white. The housing of the signal lamp enables routing of the signal around vertical axle up to 30% both ways. Each lamp has lens hood. In the housing of the shunting signal are placed the elements for measuring and regulation of the current for signal lights. The signal is placed on standard concrete base, and the upper edge of the base is 60mm below upper edge of rail.

Indicator for direction, track and speed

With its signalization they upgrade use of main signal and distant signals. They are built under main plate of the main signal, or distant signal, on the signal post. It consists of the housing, panel with lights and up to 20 signal bulbs arranged as necessary.

Signal lamp

Signal lamp is suitable for signalization in railway systems where it is necessary to have a large distance visibility. Waterproof housing, made of silumin with flat rear cover, is equipped with lock and 2 wing screws. The protection level is IP55. Excellent visibility by day or by night is insured by using the optical set with full lens of great optical power and regulation of lamp current for day/night. As a light source it is used a two-filament bulb, which is directly implemented into the circuit for control of work of the signal lamp. Appearance of phantom signal light is eliminated by using specially shaped cover – lens hood and 15 degree slope (up) of protective glass of signal lamp.

Optical construction consists of:

  • Parabolic cut and polished firm lens, diameter 136 mm
  • Bulb neck resistant to mechanical shock
  • Spherical mirror
  • Filter (colored) glass
  • Divergent glass
  • Protective glass
  • Carrier of telescope for directing

Signal bulbs that can be used for signal lamps:

  • Sig 1206 (12 V 6 W)
  • Sig 1230 (12 V 30/30 W)
  • Sig 1820 (12 V 20/20 W)
  • Sig 3015 (15 V 15/15 W)
